Prolite pad - how long do they last?

Hi,

My saddle fitter has suggested I use a prolite pad for my horse to correct the fit of the saddle while she is of a lower weight.

I am wondering whether or not to buy new. My friend has a prolite pad in the correct size she is offering to give me, but it’s 3 years old. Will that be sufficient or should I buy a new one? It seems in good condition but I’m not sure if it will have the same affect as a new pad or if it will have flattened down a bit. How long do these type of pads tend to last before they need replacing?

I want my horse to be comfortable but I am trying to keep costs low.

Advice appreciated,

Thank you.

I think sometimes that get stiffer / less giving as get older. I dont think a brand new one, and an older one feel the same. Can you have a look / feel of a new one and check the one you are about to buy second hand feels similar.

I have a couple of ancient ones that seem just fine.

I dare say a newer one would be slightly better, but IMO the older ones still do the job.

For me, it would depend on how much cheaper the older one was!
