proof of magnetic therapy working?

What with all these magnetic wraps rugs etc. cropping up all over the place, does anyone actually have any evidence of them working for them or alternatively heard of any actual scientific research paper evidence? Is an area worth investigating do you reckon?
I am highly sceptical but willing to be proved wrong!
 
My other half, my horse and my cat all have magno therapy.

My other half feels his aches and pains after a few hours without it. My cat has reduced amounts of metacam now she has her magnetic 'necklace' on at night and my horse is less stiff and his legs are not filled in the morning following wearing of his magnetic stable chaps.

Its like a lot of things, it works well in some and not in others in my opinion. Am thinking of getting a magnetic bracelet for my arthritis now.
 
Anecdote is all very well, but there is currently no scientific proof that static magnets do anything to the horse's body. Pulsed magnets are a different story - there is evidence to suggest they have some effect on the body.
 
Yes, but lots of horse 'cures' and treatments are anecdotal, there's little solid proof for lots of stuff I would imagine. If it does no harm - I don't seem anything wrong with trying things

I actually do agree there, though - my horse is currently wearing a pair of Bioflow boots

I have to whisper this whole episode as the lady concerned could have got into trouble!

About 5 years ago, my wonderful Sullivan was diagnosed with the severest djd/navicular syndrome the vets had ever seen. Worse in his front feet but present in his hinds too. He was bilaterally lame in front so I missed it for months. I was devastated at the diagnosis as the specialist vet said he could never be ridden again and would only be able to totter round the fields for a little longer. We tried the standard things anyway, but to no avail.

In desperation, after reading a superb advert extolling their virtues, I contacted one of the major magnetic therapy boot manufacturers. Turns out it was a lady with the local franchise. The ad gave a couple of miraculous case studies and I hoped, hoped, hoped it could help Sullivan. I spoke to the lady and when I tearfully explained the situation she said, save your money. They won't help at all.

RIP Sullivan xxx
 
I don't think the franchisee was necessarily negating the effects of the boots but felt that in your horses case they wouldn't make any difference - i think they can be useful in certain cases.
 
Yes I have used normal stable bandages and although they helped with his swelling, it did not get rid of it completely and he was still stiff in the morning.

I do not need scientific proof. It helps my OH and my animals.

It wont help advanced arthritis where the cartilage has eroded away and the bone is starting to resorb, but it can help mild/moderate cases.

Although I believe in science, there are some things that science cannot explain.

My cat was involved in the trials of Metacam to make a type suitable for cats. She is sick on cat Metacam, but is ok on the dog version, scientifically, she should cope better on the cat version.
 
We have one on our black lab. We didn't realise she had lsot it (black dog with black collar) but we noticed she was getting stiff. It wasn't until someone rang to say they had found the collar that we realised, a week later!
 
I didnt believe they could work but Im trying them with one of mine as Im desperate.

Box of Frogs - thats a very sad story and Im very very sorry about Sullivan.
 
My horse fractured his leg and my instructor told me to get a pulsating magnet as she swears by magnets. I put it on two times a day for about 4 -5 weeks. my vet could not believe how well the fracture had healed. who knows if it was the magnet or not but im sort of convinced ever since.
 
Merlins arthritic fetlock was less pronounced when he wore Bioflow boots for 12 hours a day.....

And the vet said that they seemed to be doing something!! He did some research and said that the correct type of magnet would help.

Ah but pulsed magnets have been shown to have an effect, unlike static magnets... hence pulsed magnets are a bit more expensive than static ones...
