Went to hang a haynet up in the stable last night, extra large because its so cold! Normally prefer feeding from the floor but he's just standing on it and not eating it and I really want him to eat it in this weather.

Put the string through the tie ring, pulled it up to its full height and the string snapped. I flew backwards across the stable and fell underneath my 17.2WB who was quietly eating his dinner by the door. Luckily he is the most genuine and lovely horse, he did jump up in the air in suprise but then managed to come down on the other side of me without standing on me as I lay sprawled out on the stable floor.

Managed to scrape myself off the floor, stagger out the door for help thinking I just had concussion when I felt blood running down my face. Turns out that I hit the back of my head so hard that I somehow bit through my cheek/face with one of my upper teeth. I had an attractive hole going all the way through my face and into my mouth!!

Once friends had finished laughing at fact that only I could do myself a serious injury while hanging a haynet we scooped a large chunk of ice out of the nearest water bucket (very handy!) and I was sent off to casualty to have my face glued back together.

I now look something like Leslie Ash when she had the bad botox crossed with an extra from Planet of the Apes.:eek:

Moral of the story, always feed from the floor, even if you do waste some:rolleyes:;)

i'm so so sorry but that made me laugh so hard!! mainly because its something i'd do! my nets have snapped while i've been hanging them too tho not been as dramatic as yours. my last horse snapped his, then put his foor thru it but because he was a pig he was found with his foot still thru it merrily eating his way out of it lol! you poor thing tho do feel sorry for you but thanks for giving me a giggle! :D

That sounds awful! Someone did that at our yard just the other week, landed on the soft bed and thankfully horse wasn't in the stable but whacked her arm. Hope the bruises and swelling go down soon...who needs snow on the ground or to come off an actual horse eh when we can inflict such silly injuries to ourselves! (from one who fell down the wooden stairs 2 weeks ago running for the phone with wet feet after a bath!)

Dangerous for the horses too :D

Don't feel too bad. We had to help one of the liveries when she broke her own nose doing a girth strap up - she had been using mane and tail conditioner, slippery stuff, and when she hoicked the girth up her hand flew off the strap and fisted herself in the face. You know how you use your head to hold the sweat flap back....puts you in just the right place for a smack on the nose.

:D It was funny, in a "glad that wasn't me" kind of a way.

Lol, that sounds like me! For some reason it is always me, OH thinks I should get some kind of nectar card for casualty. Free parking for every ten visits.;):D

funny that I get told that by my friends too! always some sort of injusry usually from doing something stupid! glad there's someone out there as accident prone as me, and as for the breaking the nose doing up the girth post, that'll so be me. have tried using elbow to hold up flap but head is much better!! :D

I'm sorry- I actually just lol-ed at that....only because its the sort of thing likely to happen to me.....

I was hauling a massive haynet up once, threaded it through the bailer twine- which snapped- I went sprawling backwards too.....landed on a lovely deep bed of straw with said humungous haynet on my chest. No harm done- just several minutes of giggling to myself - then my mate walked in to find me like an up-ended beetle...

I do this nearly every time i ride :D bloody hurts

OP ouch hope your ok!!! I dont see the point in me using haynets anymore because Ayla picks hay out of the net and then on the floor to eat :)

Oh your poor face must be really sore :(:(

A few years ago I had an event horse in for rehabbing after an injury. He was renowned for being a bad b******* and even the vet had warned me about him (and armed me with a lot of ACP;)), so I did everything with him myself and wouldn't let the other staff anywhere near him. So I go in to rug him up, tread on one of the straps, and as I'm flying through the air towards him I'm thinking "right I am dead now" - I ended up in a heap underneath him, with him so surprised he was just standing stock still looking down at me as I scrambled blushing to my feet. The girls still laugh about it:o So rugs are dangerous too:D

LOL! Sorry I keep laughing at everyone's misfortune lol!!! Actually i couldnt agree more that rugs are dangerous, the amount of times I've stood on the straps, yanked it up from under my foot and its sprung up and smacked me in the face is unreal. ergh, rugs =( =(

Noo, don't invent new ways for me to injure myself! So far I've never maimed myself on a rug.

*Strokes kitten for luck, can't reach any wood;):D*

We had a pony at our yard that got it's foot stuck in it's net & hung itself by it's leg..one of the girls found him the next morning & had to cut him down..he collapsed, pulled a tendon but made a full recovery..very lucky..
