Based on recommendations on here I'm keen to get my boy a Newmarket exercise rug.

Which is the geniune article- the proper thick wool one? Every manufacturer has their own version with the Newmarket stripes and some of them look like flimsy rubbish!

Can anyone help?

I have always believe that rambo's version of the newmarket rug has been the geniune product. Derby House do the proper version I think (dont hold me to it) but derby house also do there own version of this rug!

Mine is fab and is made by Shires, it just says 'Shires, Newmarket blanket 100% wool'

I've ridden out in heavy rain and the horse is still dry underneath.

I don't think Rambo is the original manufacturer of this. I thought it was Witney, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Witney wool ones are the real deal I think. Be prepared to spend a lot of money though, Im sure mine was about £80. Saying that its so prescious I dont use it and have a Shires one that does the job unless its really wet!

Witneys are the 'origional' Newmarket blanket! Don't know if the others are as good? My Mum found me a Witney blanket in a jumble sale years ago and I use it as an under blanket when it gets really cold, it is really warm!

I've got the full version, in other words, a Newmarket stripe fleece and it's by Rambo. I chose this one because it's man-made fibre so you can wash it but wool is tricky to wash. If anyone is considering the Rambo fleece I can thoroughly recommend it, as it's a lovely thick weight and generously deep.

I had a wool one for a previous horse that was by Rhinegold. It was quite good considering it was a cheapie.

Its WITNEY (No H) and they ARE the real deal!

Good about them PF - they are breathable and warm but allow movement of moisture

In all honesty the new wicking fabrics are prob even better, but I am an old school person and if I could still buy old style NZ's and Jute rgs I would!
