Hi

I have a 6 acre field that I might rent out in the future for grazing but I think I will need Liability insurance just to protect myself, should anyone fall down a rabbit hole?

The best quote i have had so far is £310 a year. As i thought to rent it out for around £50 a month (summer/autumn) this seems a really large premium, anyone got any ideas to lower it?

Or any suggestion of places to call? The field is not near my house so can't go on house insurance.

Thanks

Yes I probably could get more than that but have been toying with the idea of keeping 1/2 of it to experiment on taking hay from it.

Either way the premium is the same if I have 1 foot of land to 6 acres.

agree with hh there...try nfu mutual..the best way aswell is to find your local rep...dont phone the national number..your local rep will drive the price down for you and give you options and advice..

hope this helps!

I'm sure you would get more than £50 a month for it but think that £310 for the premium is a bit high.

I would given NFU a call (as HH says), but they are unlikely to want to provide cover in isolation. They would be more willing if you said that you would move your household / car / horse policy to them at renewal. Alternativily, you could ask your existing insurer.

Thanks

I have jsut contacted Nfu £50 if added to my household insurance, unfortunately I do not insure my home it goes through my Dad and the renewal was December.

Have also just tried JUBUMs suggestion of Clivertons and quote was £194.

Hurrah

Thanks

If u join the BSJA supporters club you ger it free ( public liability ins ) up to 3 million, just for about 35 pounds, see the bsja website.

I think you might find that this would be considered a 'business' and therefore would not be covered under any Personal/Public liability cover provided under the BSJA membership. To be safe you should take out your own Public/Property Owners Liability policy.

Insurers are a nightmare, very picky. Get this.... my horsebox, and horses are insured with NFU...I wanted to insure a trailer, they wouldn't cover it unless I covered my car with them.....

Horse Trailer..........
It seems my horses are insured with NFU Direct, but my lorry was with my local NFU......When I rung to get it covered they each said the other would insure it.....but wouldn't........

You can add it on to the horse policy which states that it must be locked when out of use or add to the horse lorry insurance for fully comp so insured the same way as the lorry. I think it is cheaper under the lorry policy than the horse policy so best bet is to call them back and tell them to do it there shouldn't be any problem if you have the value and year!! Hope this helps.
