Pros and cons and experience of hoof boots

I have the easyboot trails for my TB. He moves so much better since I bought them. He used to have a choppy 'pony' trot and now it's bigger and bouncier. He is not in work though as has had kissing spines. I will be making a final attempt to bring him back into work over the winter.

Make sure they are the correct fit, I have had easyboots that have been a smidge too big and they can overreach and pull them off. Get the correct ones for your horses foot shape and you should be OK. There are some better than others for different things. You cannot compete at dressage, SJ or XC in them.

The Saddlery Shop are good for advice on measuring and fitting etc.

I use the cavallo simple boots for my tb, had no problems at all with them. easy to whip on and off, been down and up steep hills, through rivers and in deep mud and they have stayed put. I also jump in them and they have been fine. Lasted a while too, i wouldnt use any others :)

Thanks. I'm going to get my trimmer to advise on fit but I think she only has easy boot bares and I don't think I've seen totally positive feedback on them?

I have four horse one has Boas two old mac mark twos , and one easy boot back country's .
My trimmer chose them all I think I would have made a right hash of getting the right ones .
Many people hate boas but my horse did very well in them.
The old macs my TB wears old stockings or pop socks and needs a piece of vet wrap on the inner strap but then they fit fine and dont rub my other horse wears gaiters with his and that's works well for him .but they look very clumpy.
The easy boot back country's are great easy to put on and have never rubbed.
Putting boots on is a pain at first but you get the knack and then it's much quicker.

I have Easyboot Gloves - I use for competition up to 30 miles endurance.
Easyboot Glove Back Countrys which i use for hacking and training rides
Some Easyboot Grips which are great in wet and mud
and some renegades which are amazing! I went XC in them and they were fab, through boot sucking mud and over a range of XC fences no probs no slipping :)

FIT it's all about correct FIT, so many people complain boots are no good when their horse has terrible contracted heels, flare or asymmetrical shape! Coorect hoof form is crucial for successful booting.

Saying that some boots are good for odd shaped hooves, it depends on the horse...

Great advice from www.cannockchaseequine.co.uk :)

I've only used the Cavallo Simples on my TB mare - they're great - been through fords in them and they don't come off - the ONLY thing I can say negatively about them is that on smooth wet tarmac roads they can be slippy.

This, if the bares fit then get them, if they do not don't ;)

All about fit and each boot has a sort of hoof it fits best on, however I swear by my renegades!! Perfect fit and stay on on all terrain with slipping even in gallop on wet grass! Also the only boot with moving parts that are similar to moving parts of the leg/hoof.
