Following on from my other post I'd add that my mare was previously hot shod

but the new farrier only offers cold shoeing.

Is hot shoeing better ?
What are the differences?

Thanks again

There is a belief that hot shoeing makes the shoe more secure; however Ellie has been done both ways, with no real difference. My dad used to cold shoe always, except the shires, which he had to hot shoe because of the density of the metal! Personally, I wouldnt mind either way - current farrier hot shoes, but I wouldnt object if he wanted to do her cold!

I don't really know the pros and cons but my horses were done both ways and I never noticed much difference!

well it made a difference to my mare, her hoves arnt the best and a couple of times he did her cold and they were off before the next shoeing, then when he did them hot again they stayed on so it did seem to make a difference to her anyway,

Hot shoeing definitely gives a better fit, but unfortunately no farrier within an hour and a half radius of me does hot shoeing...

Where in Tipp are you? Mine does hot and he travels - travels almost 2 hours to me!

With cold shoeing the hoof is trimmed more to fit the shoe, with hot shoeing the shoe is adjusted more to fit the hoof.
