My horse is off the critical list!!!!!!!

He has been dangerously ill with protein losing enteropathy (inflamed intestines) since September. He's had awful diarrhoea, no appetite & lost nearly 200 kg. Has nearly been put down 3 times on visits to Newmarket.

There have been countless ups & downs as he'd have a good couple of days & then get worse than ever.

About 3 weeks ago, he suddenly started to improve & for the first time didn't have a relapse, and on our checkup today, his insides aren't inflamed any more, he's put on 50 kg, he doesn't have to go back to Newmarket & he can go back to full work!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who's suggested various things to try and different things to feed him, etc. The support has really made a difference during some very dark & miserable times.

He has been on Death Row for so long that it's going to be a while before it sinks in that we've made it to the other side.

I feel like the luckiest person in the world today.

I am soooo happy for you and your boy as I was following your previous posts with interest. Hopefully your story will give lots of people hope! Do keep us posted on how you are both doing, especially bringing him back into work.

Booked an indoor school for 1/2 hour today so I wouldn't be tempted to overdo it...and he was so revved up, as if he's got new batteries! I wonder whether he'd been feeling a bit off colour for a while before the disease really 'came out' because he was being a bit slow & didn't run off with me in the summer jump cross or xc training when he really should have gone ballistic...

School booked for another 1/2 hr on Fri so he can have a rest if he needs one tomo.

Thats lovely!
My mare was diagnosed with this condition 2 years ago - she was very ill and we nearly lost her, yet she too is now off the steroids and back to normal! (well for a 36yr old....)
