Protexin Gut Balancer

I just want to help my 2 as best I can and with the grass being so bad and living off almost sand at the moment going ininto the winter as want to protect them as much as possible! I do have a friend that swears by it for her horses.

Yes, it works, there is other probiotics too with similar levels in, you can feed what's cheapest with the same amount. Also I've found that you don't have to feed it long term to all, sometimes just short term to get them over a hump

If your grass is very short and sandy, I’d include some psyllium too for a couple of weeks every few months.

I used to feed the gut balancer until a visit from an independent equine nutritionist who pointed out that a good vits and mins balancer included the protein gut balancer ingredients.

I have used it, really liked it, does what it says. Mine is on a balancer and two of her feeds have Protexin in-feed, so I don't bother with it anymore, only as I feel I don't really need it. But it's a good product IMO.

I have fed it for years after my vet recommended for a horse that got spasmodic colic every time we had a flush of grass, completely sorted him out and never happened again! My vet advised if you are feeding a gut balancer then Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the active ingredient you want to look for, there are others out there that contain it too. Protexin has always worked well for me and if you buy the bigger tubs works out about £10/month to feed.

That's interesting as the one I use recommended it with my youngster when he was teething. I used it for that period and just started him on it again as he's just come back from the breakers and a bit of a nervous 💩

I feed Pink Mash which has Protexin in it. I need a (very) low calorie feed for my mare and she's had a couple of gas colics/is generally very gassy. Not sure wther it helps, but it looks fab and she eats it. I do wonder whether I'd be better off feeling something cheaper and then adding the protexin separately?

I feed it but my preference is Max Gut Health which I buy when I get discounts. So will switch between the two depending on price/discounts. I feed it because of all the research on gut flora.

Could you possibly recommend a good balancer, please? With 4 horses, I run through gut balancer very quickly! seems like I can get more for my money with a vitamin and mineral balancer

Just started my horse on it yesterday who has loose poops following a change of yards and very lush grass! Been on it 24hrs and already see an improvement, could be a coincidence or the hay she has also had…but so far so good

Out of interest, for those who have used it for a change in grass etc...how long did you keep the horse on it? I don't routinely use a gut supplement as we've never had any issues until we moved to a new yard and have much more rich grass. Couple of weeks?
