Is there any stuff i can buy over the counter to get rid of some proud flesh or do i have to get it from my vets.

Sorry if I'm being a bit stupid here but it's a long time ago i ever need stuff like this so can't remember where i got it from or what it was.

I think that the vet has to actually debride the proud flesh. Not heard of anything that removes it otherwise. I may be wrong but a youngster has just had to have some removed by the vet after a kick which is healing.

manuka honey is good for healing wounds and preventing proud flesh from forming, but I don't know if it will work on an old wound with proud flesh scar tissue or not.

I second the silver nitrate -they used to do these small one use things that you could literally draw onto the wound and throw away - don't know if they still do it.
at least consult with vet first and be confident in doing it...

A friend recently had a colt with a very nasty wound on his leg which developed proud flesh. Vet suggested we try copper sulphate crystals (dissolved in a little water and painted on with a tiny paintbrush 2xweek) It worked well and reduced it by 50% I'd say. The rest was debrided by the vet and the wound has now nearly healed over. We tried to buy the crystal from the chemist who looked at us like we were trying to make bombs or something so the vet gave us some. I've since discovered you can buy them on eBay!

Check with your vet first but this worked really well for us.
