So I took the big boy (Friesian) out to explore a new route today and he was hoof perfect! This was a horse that originally wouldn’t hack on his own - now completely turned around and will go anywhere on his own… and all it took was trust, time and going back to the basics first. Today we tackled a bridge over an A road, wooden bridge on a bridleway, queuing at traffic lights at crossroads, big grassy open fields, double decker buses, and motorbikes passing within touching distance ? and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute! proud is an understatement and the sense of achievement is immense! I’ve been riding this boy since he was 5 and he is now 9. He’s been very slow to mature but today he felt really grown up! Just wanted to share, hope you have all had a good Sunday and had a good day with your horses?

Lovely post. You have given your horse the best gift of all. He is confident and happy, and as a result he will always easily find a home and be loved.

Thank you everyone!

This is my friend’s horse and not sure she will ever sell him but either way, it’s just so lovely he has realised the fun of hacking. This horse used to plant, spin and rear on occasion. Even walking him out in hand on the road was a challenge at one stage! It was all about getting his trust and learning the best way to get him to listen - which was patience and taking it very slowly and instilling the basics first.
