havent ridden her for a few weeks since i fell off and look at how amazing she went (in comparison!):

shes only 5 and has been stuck in due to the bad weather, so im just really pleased with how she went :D

also, people good at spotting lameness... shes been off the danilon for about 2 weeks now (fractured pastern joint) and that was the first time ive ridden her without it, how do you think shes looking? her bad leg is the left hind but she seemed to be tracking up better with her bad leg than she did with her good leg! strange horse lol.
 
If she's not been ridden for a few weeks I don't understand why you are trotting and cantering her in that school? Would rather do some walk work on a hack or in the school if she is silly out and about and some in hand work as well to help build her topline back up.

Sorry for negative post, just my opinion after time off and particularly as she is on the mend from an injury. She is very pretty btw!

Also noticed you have only ridden her on the one rein in the video?

Can't really tell if there's any lameness as the camera man/woman's hands are too shakey :D However she does look very happy and like she's enjoying herself :D
 
i had done a lot of walk work with her beforehand but no one wants to see her walking around like a giraffe haha :) just thought i'd give her a little trot to finish as she felt relaxed, but she had other plans and i didnt want to end it on a bad note.

its a very old injury that she will never fully recover from, she was supposed to be on danilon for the rest of her life but i dont want her on it if she's not in pain without it. after new year i will get the vet out to see what he thinks.

About working her only on one rein, it must just be my terrible editing skills!

She's a lovely looking horse, I'm no expert so can't comment on anything else - bucks alot but you seem to stay on, so I guess that's okay :D
 
well i wouldnt have ridden on that surface. it obviously is still very frozen. for a horse that has had time off i am afraid i am old school. 4 weeks walking, another 4 weeks in walk nd trot. your horse bucking and chucking her head is an unhappy horse. i have a just broken 4 year old who hasnt done sweet fa for 5 weeks that goes nicer than that. and you kept asking for canter! best of luck keeping horse sound if not prepared to do the groundwork. maybe get a good instructor to give you a hand? horse could be useful if schooled.
 
Well done sitting those spooks and staying dry! Some really nice work at times, just perservere and trust your (and vet's) judgement on the Danilon. Difficult to tell if sound or not with all the high jinks!!!!
 
Hopefully when she is calmer it will be easier to see how she's moving. I think you sat really well too like Supagran said. Here's hoping she manages okay without the Danilon, although at least you know she can go back on it if needs be. Good luck next year with her, she looks like a really nice sort and you obviously adore her. x
 
She is a very pretty girl but I too would question the wisdom of working in anything other than a walk on that surface. If she has already suffered a fracture then I would be doubly careful.

I hope she comes right for you, she is lovely.
 
Nice horse, one thing that concerns me a little is the way she goes into canter, to me that looks like pain avoidance rather than mucking around (I may be very wrong, but I'm used to riding quite fresh horses and they don't behave like that)...
Does she do the same thing at canter on a lunge with /without tack? I'd just be curious to make sure it wasn't pain related that's all just wanting to be safe than sorry! I maybe totally wrong but i'd rather be proved wrong :) (Regardless of the fact shes green or not)

Bloody Well sat though! Looks like she may turn into a nice horse has a trot i'm rather jealous of! xx
 
the ground was actually completely unfrozen, would not have ridden her if it wasnt.
my instructor was there, and agreed that if she wanted to canter, then let her - she is a young horse, if she didnt want to she wouldnt be that enthusiastic about it. she bucks and shakes her head when she is turned out, is she unhappy then?

and to be honest, i would be stupid to expect anything more from a fresh young horse that has been stabled for months with very limited turnout
i quite like that she has a bit of character.

thanks for the comment, will definitely get her vet to check it out though i do think shes just a bit excited at the minute as she doesnt usually do that haha. but like you said, better safe than sorry!
 
I agree that she looks unhappy. A happy horse, even one that's fresh, does not buck or swish it's tail that much. There was also one of the slowed down trot bits where she's definitely nodding in front which co-incides with the broken joint hitting the ground.

don't be sorry, its constructive -thanks, will phone vet tomorrow. its just when you're riding her or spend time with her she gives you that feeling that shes just happy and enjoying herself, but now youve pointed that out i can see where you're coming from.

it's just when people say unneccessary things, its not nice is it. especially when i work bloody hard to do everything i can for her.
 
I'm just as guilty of it mind - had a lesson Jazz and I thought he felt fab but his owner was watching and said he looked a little stiff behind (no-one else saw it though!) and back lady said his pelvis was out slightly. Not always easy to feel - easier to notice on the ground.

hi all, thought i would do a quick update. i had a word with the vet today & he has said to put her back on danilon for the time being whilst she adjusts to work again and just ride her through it, basically.
so today her new bridle came, both love it! and following vets advice we did 10 minutes walk and 5 minutes trot. (she did spook (my dad let the chickens out) and got carried away a little bit, but she calmed down straight away after so i gave her a walk off and left it at that.)

Those are major spooks, well sat!

I think she's still lovely as ever - sorry - couldn't really see the bridle - think the resolution on You Tube is not great.

i stand in my stirrups when she goes and just go with the flow, probably not the wisest move, but it works!

She can't half spook!! lol.

In the first part I think I can see a slight uneveness in walk.. not all the time but now and then. When you move up a pace it seems to wear off so possibly a bit of stiffness.

Woould you take £2.50p for her? And a pack of slightly fluffy polos?
 
i'll keep my eye on that, im hoping its just stiffness! got vet coming out again on the 14th jan anyway, hes going to watch me ride her so hopefully shes loosened up a bit by then!

oooh i'll have to think about that, that's probably more than i'd get for her if i did try selling her to be honest, the crippled nutcase she is!! ;) x
