So today's weather was ghastly! (I'm in kent) rain, wind, rain, rain wind!
Dispite my better judgement I decided to take baby horse (2yrs) for a walk in hand down the road, bare in mind we've only done this once before.

So we got kitted up. Think head to toe hi vis for the pair of us! And off we went... I have to say I had the best time I've had for a very long time! We practiced 'stand' and 'walk on' and let cars pass, tackled puddles (these were terrifying at first, but he soon realised how fun it is to stand a splash in them) I absolutely LOVED watching his cogs ticking and enjoying learning. All this was done on his own and in weather that would put wind up the bum of the steadiest of horses!

It's made me realise that dispite never owning a youngster and completely throwing myself in at the deep end, I've made positively the best decision I possibly could have!

Apologies for the gushy proud post! Dispite all this rain, I've had a fantastic day!
 
Congratulations! I'm in Kent so know how miserable it was today! Even my normally very sensible, chilled out 6 year old was constantly looking for 'monsters' out hacking so well done to both of you! :D
 
Oh I feel really proud for you :D. I love these little milestones and even with the horrendous weather today it won't wipe the smile off your face.
I have been getting my boy out and about as much as possible and he has been a star, backed him a couple of weeks ago but he's now having a few weeks off from the bit as just had his wolf teeth out. It is a wonderful journey with these youngsters and I enjoy every minute of it. :D
 
So am I cambrica. Its an incredibly rewarding experiance. When he's on the yard, he's into everything and just can't keep his feet still! But as soon as he's got somthing to think about he really settles and put his mind to it. Its really lovely to watch.
 
Ah lovely - my youngster has had his first set of shoes this week, and took everything in his stride, farrier told him 'A*!' Then saddle fitting two days alter, again foot perfect, I only hope that when he travels off to the backer on Monday he's as good!
 
Well he sounds like a really genuine lad and must have all the trust he needs in you. I walk Roberto out on a loose rein, chat away to him, stop and talk to people, even stopped to pick blackberries. I've even let my son skateboard around the village with us. The key is to never react to anything yourself, if you remain chilled and calm so will he.
Lets hope for some brighter weather though;)

Ahh, good luck. Hope it all goes well for you. I can't wait for the day I can climb abord (quite literally, he should make 17hh+!) although i am really enjoying these baby stages.
