I took Ellie on the road today for the first time since we were hit last week. She was a star; I was very nervous myself so the whole situation wasnt particularly ideal, but I felt I needed to get back on and out there before my nerves convinced me not to. She was fine initially; there were about three cars that passed us and she didnt even flinch, but then a big lorry came up behind us (typical!) and my stomach turned over, it was a horrid feeling :( I managed to get her into a little gateway, and as she heard the lorry approaching she started to tense and jitter around on the spot. I turned her round to face it and that seemed to calm her a bit - also, the lorry driver was very considerate and went very, very slowly. Elz was trembling but she didnt move from the spot, so I was very pleased with her! Just have to take it slowly now - I think I'm going to wait until I can take her out in company before venturing back into the village, just to be on the safe side.

I would be gutted if she now started to be unsafe on the road. It's taken me so many years to build up her confidence and convince her that cars are not monsters, but now one has 'bitten' her I worry I will have to do all that work all over again, and that she may never really trust me again on the road. I guess time will tell - I need to work on being confident myself, as she really does feed off my vibes!

Here she is this morning:

Well done for getting back out there. I think that was really brave of you both. And i don't think it sounds like all your work has been undone if she managed to let a big lorry pass her whilst she was on her own, the first time you've been back out. It's understandable that she was a bit jittery (and you) but every time something passes her without incidence, you will both become more confident. Especially if there is a calm friend there for each of you. Keep us updated x
