Pretty pointless point but oh well im proud of my pony :)

Background: hes a 14.3hh ish gelding, 11 yrs old on lwvtb.. Hes prone to bolting, is very nervy & sensitive, very forward to ride/sharp but good as gold on ground...

So iv been working on his schooling as he doesnt really know any and hes coming on well.. Working on getting him off forehand & improving his canter because its awful.

But also trying to get mine & his confidence up out hacking(hes bolted with me once & anything apart from a walk in a field we struggle with).

Well it was very windy today but i thought we'd brave it and do a new ride as couldnt ride in our woods due to a shoot :( had to go up a vusy road that goes up hill before turning off to bridleway. He was perfect(normally spooky) & then to my horror i realised the shoot had moved from.one side of estate to field next door to road *cue loud bangs/barking dogs* eek! He did spook but didnt bolt. We got past safely & onto bridleway where he stood for me to get on/off at gates (used to rush off when i got on) and trekked through all the mud/undr tress/over hosepipes and to end of bridleway where we turned round (dead end).. Managed a controlled canter back then it started to rain.. Got all the way back home safely which for us is massive!! No bolting & he turned around & went back along bridleway with little jogging & no bolting & got me safely back down hill(i hate riding down hill)..

Sounds nothing i know but it was a massive step for us :)
Im going to do a lot of bombproofing with plastic/bangs/umbrellas etc to try get him less spooky and then.its just sorting canter...

Any advice would be great?!
Basically if i keep seated and keep.him in a very controlled canter with short reins hes okay & i can stop (albeit not instantly).. If i let him bowl on in canter when i ask to stop he throws his head up & goes faster=me pulling releasing and sitting deep & he does stop sometimes but if i tense against him he p***** off and gallop all control is out window.

Any ideas so we can both enjoy a canter without loosing control would be good? Im taking him to some gallops soon so i can just let him go and not worry bout ground/stopping & hopefully itl get it out of his system a bit... But i really want to sort the cantering as he could be an awesome xc pony as well as sj(hes done bsja).

Back is being done next sat & new saddle asap as his fits him but slightly too small for me.. He was in a tom.thumb for hacking jumping/hanging cheek snaffle for schooling but i have him.in hanging cheek for everything plus flash plus standing martingale!

Omg epic post sorry to anyone who managed to read it.. Fajitas for you all :)
