Just wanted to post as bursting with pride over how well the baby horse (4 years old, and not babyish in size as knocking on a very big boned 16.2hh!) has been doing this week.

Had her out on her own on Thursday and despite it taking about the double the time as the route usually takes, she did manage to overcome the demons and we got to go where I asked - we are still at the stage where we might come to a full stop for a while out on our own, but not too worried so long as she always goes on eventually when I ask her.

Then today we had a stupidly high wind here, but took her out with OH and the iron horse, who she seems to draw some comfort from, and we had a good long hack with minimal spooks and even had a canter up one of our only bridleways through an open field. Am keeping cantering to a minimum on the whole, as she can get super exicted and throw in a few expressive twisty bucks just to show how happy she is! Anyway, got back safe and sound and feel like we are forming more of a partnership all the time. Good job, as she is too big and athletic to fight against!

She is definitely a 'ask nicely and I'll probably do it, but be unfair and the toys will come out of my pram' girl, so a proper partnership is going to be the only way forward if I value my neck!

A few photos from back in May so you can see how blummen big she is!

This was one of her first canters and calm....she is getting more adventurous now!

Cookies if you got this far!

Thanks Mrs M - I did wonder if Diz was one of them!

The old adage of 'ask stallion, discuss with a mare and tell a gelding' (think that's right! Is it? I'm confused ) often seems to be the case.

We have one of each and it does hold true, though I do seem to think I can boss the stallion mostly as he is only little!
