We've had the Pink Pony for just over three years now. His previous jockey was my older son, but he outgrew him very quickly. In the meantime I've kept him ticking over with a bit of hacking (he's 13.2) and I had a young girl ride him a bit. But with one thing and another he's been turned away for a few months getting more and more feral.
At last we have a school at home and small jockey is now big enough to ride him. He's a tricky little pony - never nasty, but quite whizzy (Arab x NF), and at 21 thinks he knows everything. Well, he's been a PC pony for long enough so he probably does, but he still needs a little 'containing'. Small jockey has also not ridden since last summer and that was Western style when we were in Montana.
I've been lunging for a week or so and doing some in hand flexion work and he's ceased the vertical take off and landings now he's getting back into work (he only does those on the lunge and only then when he's out of a routine).
Today was his first day under saddle for months. I rode him for about 20 minutes, he was typically snorty, but once he'd started to calm down a bit, small jockey got on board. They just kept to walk, but I was very proud of them both and hope that it's the beginning of a very happy partnership.
Some pictures - he's looking rather feral but I thought the fluff might slow him down a bit, and he also doesn't look very pink in his winter woolies, but how lovely to have blue skies and sun after all the rain.....
Thanks for reading.
