UPDATE ON MY NEW LOAN PONY..
it will probably help if you read my post before, although it was a long while ago!!
anyway, i posted this as im so very proud of zilke today
remember i said when out riding, she stopped and wouldnt go anywhere?
well.. rode out for just over an hour today and she didnt stop once.. apart from when we stopped for a rest at the top of a hill [i asked her to!]
when i felt her slowing down i took my feet out of stirrups, and wrapped them round her belly, as far as i could!
sounds stupid but it worked, so rode with X long stirrups, and had to keep taking feet out

oh well, i practised my sitting trot at same time, as im rubbish at it, and couldnt rise very high with long stirrups!!

WELL DONE YOU!!! I had a pony like that once! As sweet as she was... She always always stopped! Have you had saddle checked?

she isnt mine, i have her on part loan.
but i know what to do now, think she was trying me out..
trotted her over pole slightly off ground last week, so going to try little jump on first hole on tuesday

Yay! Congrats! Mazzie was nappy when I first got her, and it feels so good when you work them through it. With Mazzie what worked was flipping the reins either side of her neck cowboy style!

yeh my old loan pony, her owner used to that instead of kicking her on!?

I came across doing it with Mazzie purely by chance! She was backing into a hedge refusing to go forward, and kicking and smacking with the whip wasn't working (she just cow kicked, and boy was she good with her back legs!), so I tried it and she just happily went forward! Daft mare! She was a polo pony so I rode with one hand anyway, just made it easier! After a few times of doing it she stopped napping. :-D
