Is there a list of NF bloodlines that carry PSSM?
A friend has seen a very nice young NF, but would be good to know whether related to those affected or not.

The new forest stallions website lists pssm status for a number of stallions. The NFPP Facebook group is also a hive of information on the breed.

All licensed stallions are type 1 pssm free - they are not allowed to be licensed if not tested. I know this because my two NF ponies came from a stud whose stallion tested positive. The breeder then tested all her foals, keeping the negative ones. Mine came with the test certificate to show pssm status. They now have a new stallion for obvious reasons.

In terms of mare bloodline, it is less assured.

Some breeders have their mares tested too. As far as I know it's only type 1 that most test for. For £30 it's worth doing on any animal you are selling or buying. If you aren't a member and have the ponies registered name give the society a ring and they can check the breedlines for you. If it's a young pony you're ok in terms of the stallions as all licensed ones are tested at the passing.

Any decent breeder should be spending the money and ensuring they are only breeding from negative stock.

Considering it's such a small cost to test, there really is no excuse.

I would absolutely make sure this youngster is negative before purchase. Dont take a punt.
