My baby cob has had never ending random lameness issues and reading about PSSM well she has just about all the symptoms. We have tried X-rays, box rest, Bute, exercise, shoes nothing improves her. The insurance won't pay for the bone scans. She went randomly lame in spring and is now much worse again. We have just started a Bute trial which has helped already. I am waiting for the vet to talk to me about the PSSM.

I thought that I would try the supplements and see if it helps nothing much to loose at this point. I can find the vitamin e oil but I'm confused about the Acetyl-L-Carnitine where do I get this from? She's on no hard feed living out 24/7. Just has fiber beat to hide her Bute in.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Current cheapest alcar is this one I think:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272036531137 7g a day

You also need to give at least 5000iu of vitamin E natural or 10000iu synthetic. You can buy that from progressive earth or forage plus. Equimins sell oil which is cheaper but I hate using it because it's so messy.

So I am on day three and the mare looks better than I can ever remember recently. Full of energy bombing around and the odd gait seems gone. I am only talking by eye in the field but it's night and day. She's still on Bute although this never helped before so going to take that off and see if we still have such a positive looking change but excited. The vets were being so negative last week saying there wasn't much more they could suggest so fingers crossed
