does any one have any reccomendations ?

ive spoke to seib and have had a quote for cover of 1 million and that covers any customers horses should they get caught in fencing things like that and for any one coming to try horses and also whilst they are on the premises.

is a million enough cover (excess was 500 per claim)???

Try Lycetts - I have pl insurance through them for a small diy livery yard and are very helpful, and reasonably priced. They will tailor make a policy for you.

Mine is partly with Lycetts and part with NFU although still costs nearly £2k a year (small yard 8 horses max). I have 10 million excess depends totally on claim, it only takes a horse to get out on the road, cause an accident several people injuried or god forbid worse and 1 million is no where near enough. I also have full care and custody, teaching as if you offer advice when someone looks at a horse this can be seen as teaching (whether paid or not). I also do have cover for fire for £5k a horse and £10k a lorry and £2k tack cover per horse as if the fire was due to faulty electrics, mice chewing through etc, I would be negligent and therefore normal insurance companies would apparently come after me, so I have tried to cover every aspect.

Any yard whether one paying livery as a friend or 40 horses should have the minimum of PL and care and custody, sadly a lot dont.

thankyou for that scally, care and custody yes that was included.

a million sounded a lot, but then speaking to a solicitor friend she ws saying a million doesnt actully go that far.

id budgeted a grand for it, and the quote i had was just under 600 so will go up to 5 million and see what it is.

my yard is a small yard, and i will be doing sales livery aswell as having my own horses to improve and sell on. I also talked to the solitr friend about the whole discalimer thing and came to the conclusion i want a proffesional business and want it done right and any sort or disclaimer justlooked and and sounded shoddy!

Good for you, disclaimers dont work especially where negligence can be proven, I have probably over insured things, but I have tried to cover every possible outcome, also NFU came out and looked at the premises as did a full assessment and fully advised me on what I should and shouldnt have, which was really helpful.

All the best of luck with your business.
