My mare is recovering from a long standing (started dec) abscess but seems to have a puffy coronary band At the moment. The abscess was deep and came out first either side of frog and then in her sole. I have made the barefoot change and she is wearing easy boot gloves with pads while turned out during the day. She has flat feet and thin soles at the moment with previous history of soft tissue injury in back third of this foot. She is mildly lame from abscess still but vet not overly concerned bout this as abscess was so severe. No pain on hoof testing or significant heat. She is on low sugar diet and trimmed by barefoot trimmer. There are noticable growth rings probably as a result of new regime, she is also 9 months pregnant. Any ideas or am I being a paranoid mom?!

I've occasionally seen inflammed coronary bands with mild lamintis, if its more than one foot, this might be worth considering.

Dont know if you got an answer to this but there is a horse at our yard with exactly the same symptoms and it is white line disease or seedy toe (think they are the same thing) can give similar signs to laminitis i think. She is having her hoof walls cut away to make sure all infection out.

Any update on yours?? xx
