Pulled muscle in forelimb

Does anyone have any experience of a pulled muscle (most likely triceps) and how long it takes to heal? Dog has been to the vets and is on rimadyl but it's been 3 weeks now (with crate rest/no walks/toilet on lead) and while it's coming and going i'm not happy that it's not fixed yet and that still sometimes he gets up on 3 legs and am booking him in to have his tendons scanned and possibly x-rays.

But, just wondering if anyone has any experience with a bad sprain and how long it took to heal as i'm aware that soft tissue injuries can take weeks.
 
He had somthing similar when he was a pup (he's only 2 now) and I had x rays done on both legs top to bottom for suspected OCD but there was absolutely nothing present that the orthopaedic surgeons could find and it just resolved itself in about 5 weeks. This time you could feel the tightness in the muscle along with heat and a little swelling and pain on palpation and extension of the leg. It just seems suspicious to me that it's the same leg once again, so hopefully i'll get some answers. He's a GSP so it's really not much fun at all for him, me or his bro!
