does anyone have any experience of this injury - how long does it take to heal? Horse having ultra sound on it, but is still lame after 2 2/1 weeks.....

Frank pulled his shoulder muscle but very high up in the neck (he had a lump come up, higher than expected!) he did it attempting to gallop on the beach (tried to push too hard when 2 others came past him and I think he forgot he was a welsh cob) It meant that he was very unwilling to swing his leg forwards

went lame immediately. hobbled back down beach v v lame. fell out of trailer to meet vet when home. mid march last year

bute for 5 days and restricted to yard rest for 3, then small paddock. much improved after a week. Had about 10 days off any work, after which I started gentle long reining in straight lines in walk to start stretching it out. Prob wasnt completely sound at this point. He was using it differently and scuffing his toe for quite a while and had muscle wastage along the back of the shoulder blade that took a long while to come back.

He didnt have any ultrasound but had 2 massage treatments by my chiro who said that actually he hadn't tore it much as she couldnt feel much of a hole.

Think I started riding again at 4 weeks, gently and took it really steady as wanted it right first time (and he was 16 then) so no medium trots for a couple of months. I did drsg with him last weekend of may as our first outing and I didnt jump him until after that as it was our RC area musics so wanted him definitely sound.

hope that helps. Are you stretching it at all?

No I havent been told to - but will see what physio says....
he is more lame today than a week ago when he was just 'short' so i guess more rest then. he is in his late teens but very active - in fact like a 2 year old! i am just praying it doesnt turn out to be a 'bone' related problem....
