Okay first thing - am sure its correct to pull a cobs tail who is shown as hogged and featherless?!
My cob is hogged and trimmed up - never really pulled a tail before, although done plenty of manes - and would like some tips on how to tackle it - pics would be good on how far to go and how low to go - i have tried a thinning rake but hasnt made a difference TBH and i dont really want to go down the clipper route!!

Dont clip unless you really have no other choice, it is not a good look and even worse if you decide to let it grow out for any reason.
I use a rake and also pull some, start by raking down each side, you need to be fairly purposeful to make a difference, over a week or two rake then pull the longer hair from each side until you start to get the shape you want, dont expect to do it in one or two goes if it is thick. Once it is taking shape, pull more from the sides, you will probably need to thin out of the middle to get it right as most cobs have a lot of hair and a thick dock.
Wash and bandage a few times as it will give you more idea of where you are, it can look a mess until you have done this.
