Pickle has developed a habit of pulling off a shoe every time we go somewhere in the trailer - 3 trips in a row now. I noticed she was very fidgety Sunday, but not the previous times. Maybe she had already half pulled the shoe off - it was hanging by 1 nail when I got her off. The really annoying thing is she only goes along as a travelling companion as Bobby gets stressy travelling by himself.
I'm at a loss what to do. My farrier curled the ends round a bit last time she had new shoes (1 week ago!).
I'm thinking of getting a rubber hoof boot for emergency shoe replacement. I'm even thinking of replacing all her shoes with them so that she can travel barefoot.
Anybody tried them at all? Or any other ideas.
I'm on a temporary farrier at the moment as usual one is broken & I'm beginning to think she fancies him!

Our mare started to do this about 3 years ago, and what she was doing was leaning on the central bar (Ifor WIlliams) and scrabbling her feet against the wall at the side. Had to take the partition out, and eventually bought a small lorry where she could travel herringbone.
I travelled a v short distance inside the box with our mare (1/4 mile v slowly) to see what was actually happening (though others may think this was dangerous, i felt it was best to find out quickly what was going on so could try to rectify).

Twice ive had this in an Ifor take partition out and put breastbar in tie from each side to headcollar with leadrope your horse is finding it difficult to stand up in such a small space some horses loke to spread there legs very wide I don't think you have much room , good luck.

Your experience is exactly the same as ours even down to travelling in the trailer and then buying a lorry herringbone! It's something to do with the suspension on Ifor Williams - they are very bouncy apparently.

mine can do this, but it cos he a stressie traveller
so my suggestion are:-
cross tie and tie short, over reach boots(bell ones) on all four, be very freindly with farrier and get set of tools to remove shoe quickly and to make sure all nails are ok, also if you can just as fonia suggested travel short distance in trailer to work out whats happening.
In my case it was the horse wanting to lean to right, so place on left side, sorted.
