Inkys tail is getting very thick at the top. I would like to thin it out alittle but have no idea where to start. I dont really want it to "look" pulled i.e. the shaved look at the sides but just thinned out.

Any one any ideas???? Please post pics if you can of your pulled tails and how you did it!!!

Thankies

My mares has grown out as she has just foaled so I haven't kept on top of it so no pics.

Literally just pull the hairs out, starting as far behind as you can. Keep taking a few steps back to look at it.

Its best not to clip the tail it my seem like the best way but it grows back thicker and is harder to control. Pulling is the best way with out a doubt. Not really much help sorry

Ditto the tail rake again. My boy has the lushest tail ever but it was a bit unruly. The tail rake tidied it up without making him look scalped. Magic device. Take care with the first couple of swipes as a brand new one is VERY sharp and effective!

If you havent pulled a tail before i would definately get someone out to do it the first time, nothing worse than a badly pulled tail (or clipped...).

Tail rake are perfect for thinning, I use the 'Smart Tails' ones -

The sides were done with Medium & Fine rakes (done a bit further down since this pic was taken) and the middle was done with Coarse and Medium rakes. Just take a bit out at a time (especially if you want it to still appear full, but tidier). This was the 1st time I had ever used a tail rake!!!
