Any tips?

Came home tonight and first thought was 'Horse needs tidying!'
I admit, I'm a little OCDish about keeping him neat :o
His neck isn't brilliant, so I like to keep his mane as short as possible, I think it looks better (: but his mane is so thin it might not exist if I try to take it that short! It's not awfully long now, probably about 4 inches longer than I want?

Don't pull it, cut it. With scissors. But NOT straight across. Chip into it, holding the scissors almost vertical. Tiny little chips into the mane. Unleash your inner Vidal Sassoon!

echo above if you can do it!!! I can't, would never make it as a hair dresser!! My tb cross has a thin mane, pulls beautifully but if I pull everytime, she'd have no hair to pull!! So I alternate between pulling, then cutting, then pulling etc, pulled today as it happended and looks fab!!! When it has been cut, ok she has a pudding basin hair cut for a while but at shows is plaited up so never seen there!!!!

I cut along the mane vertically with a thin scissors. It works quite well and my horse is much happier than when I pull the mane.

I always cut my boy's mane :S He hates having it pulled and wont let me touch it or comb it for ages afterwards if I do. I tend to do it as if I was solo-combing, I take a small section of the mane, back comb to as near the roots as possible and cut it at the top. If it's really thin (unusual for my boy!) but uneven, I just backcomb about half way and cut there. It's not perfect, but I'd rather have a mane not quite done properly than a battle with my horse!
