7th September Phil came in with a wound on his forearm. Didn't look too deep, he wasn't lame, no heat but slightly swollen. Cleaned it, called a friend for advice and left him to it. By the 9th his entire leg had swollen up, was hot and he was very lame and agitated. Vet came down, big dose of bute and anti b's and a 5 day course. On the 10th, the gunk had cleared from inside and revealed a lovely puncture wound! So hot poulticing for a week, vet back down and some more anti b's because after a week it was still swollen and I was worried about how it should look. She said it was fine, stop the poulticing and start cleaning with hibiscrub and applying a cream she gave me twice a day for a week. One month on and it's nearly gone!
And yesterday.
Thought it might be handy for anyone who's not dealt with one before! Had I known it was a puncture wound to begin with I would have obviously called the vet and went through multiple stages of guilt, but I know for next time and hopefully this will help anyone like me who doesn't have much experience with injuries
