He was a little sad last night and I let him sleep on my bed so I could keep an eye on him, he has eaten a good breakfast had some metacam, and I just had to take him for a little lead walk, as he was bouncing everywhere. Vets said no walks for 48hrs then only 10-15min lead walks. He is used to 30 min run/play with other dogs am (I know he can't do that) and a good hr off lead pm, this keeps him quiet and sane!

Are the vets being over cautious could I give him a long lead walk pm else he just bounces and chases his tail, stitches look really good at mo and I will watch them???

The more exercise he gets the more the sites of the incision and the stitches are put under strain....that leaves them at a higher risk of wound breakdown.
For the first few days the stitches are the only thing holding the wound together as no healing has occurred.

Id be wary of bringing him on long walks just yet.In a few days short one would be fine but 30 minutes of constant repetitive movement in the one area would put the stitches under more strain that even a dog chasing his tail or messing in the house.IMO it might be a bit much.
Its not as big of an issue as in a female dog where the stitches are in a more vulnerable spot but id still be careful. Trying to restitch a day or so after an operation usually means putting them back under anesthetic so best avoided.

Try wearing him ou mentally maybe loads of obedience work playing with toys that make him work for his food that sort of thing....

I had my Dobe neutered at 18months and they are very energetic dogs plus I had to contend with his sister trying to instigate play. I kept him on the lead for 10days and walked him separately from his sister purely so I had more control. I gave him lots of training, anything to keep his mind occuppied and I didnt allow him up stairs or to jump on sofas or jump on to the window seats to look out the window. Looking back it was a bit of a nightmare, I had a stairgate on the stairs and I put chairs on the window seats to stop him jumping up. He did get stir crazy but I was very inventive in keeping his mind occuppied, one of the things I did which he loved was to hide little treats and let him search for them.
