Picking up my whippet puppy tomorrow and have been told that they should not go outside until it is +4 degrees!!! We may be waiting until February for house training. Is this true? I am only suggesting taking it out to do a wee - hopefully a minute or two. Any advice gratefully received!

Jumper :D

Honestly I don't know if you'll have much choice in the matter and as you say it will only be wee breaks so I am sure a little jumper or coat (short enough so as not to interfere!) would be fine.

Thats what I thought - I think people are being too worried about the weather - how do they think people cope in the more Northern countries. My other dogs absolutely love the snow and the puppy won't know any different. It will probably have a fit when it sees grass! Will check with my vet though, but I cannot see the problem.

No I cant either! Never mind toilet training what about its socialisation until feb?! Wrap it up warm I'm sure it will be fine! Cayla has her whips out in the snow with no coats  and they havnt keeled over yet! :D

aww sounds lovely

im sure its not going to him/her any harm by just popping outside for a wee..as some have said , a jumper, coat,or a temp piece of fleece tied around..they grow so fast

whos the breeder, and whats the breeding..sorry just a whippy nosy owner

oh btw ..we need pics

i wish santa would bring me another whippy puppy..i think i would have to wait for another xmas though

Well, pictures are obligatory ASAP! My lurcher puppy came from a home with central heating to our icebox. He occasionally shivered in the first week, but when I checked him he never felt cold and plenty of blankets and beds.
He hasnt got a coat/jumper, the one time I put a temporary bit of blanket on him for a walk (as it was minus 9) he looked so disgusted I took it off again.
Obviously the weathers a bit unusual so I would have made him wear a jumper if I'd got him now.
And a gratuitous photo of the early days when I used to make him wrap up warm! He is mostly whippet, but used to look like someone had given me a JRT!
