Puppies help

The JRT puppies I have are 11 weeks old now. They are a brother and sister. They have this habit of sucking on each others privates. I stop them whenever they do this but obviously they spend time caged together.

Is this normal - and is there something I can do to stop it?

Unfortunatley this is very common.....It horrible to watch aswell

There is not much u can do......you could try placing other objects in the crate to divert their attention....like maybe some teddy bears(minus eyes and nose) as they would naturally cuddle up to each other for warmth which would lead to suckling....they may cuddle up to the teddies instead.

Otherwise you could crate them beside each other but in seperate crates(may have to invest in another crate) or get one with a middle divider.....normally for the car...until this phase has passed....as prolonged suckling on each other could make them sore.

Ok - we will watch out. They are sleeping separately at night - their choise - as they sleep in my daughters bedroom and have chosen separate places. So it's only in the crate which they are in for short periods during the day.

hI.............I spoke to my mams friend who fosters puppies for a national charity and has done so for the past 10 years.....as Im no expert

o the subject LOL.

Right.....she said this can be common in puppies that are weaned to young......and that she does seperate them and give them a comfort teddy/blanket.....until the phase subsides.

Thanks a lot. They weren't weaned till 8 and a half weeks - but maybe just feel insecure. We will start separating them if it doesn't stop.

No.....probs....hope the suckling resumes

Re- the weaning....they where probabley fully weaned before 8 weeks.....this would have been age they where sold.
