New cocker puppy has been feed raw from breeder, need any advice on feeding raw whats best, how much for each feed? He's on three feeds a day.

Thanks in advance

Did your breeder not give you a diet sheet? If not, I would go back to them and ask them for their advice so that you follow that regime to begin with and then, as you learn more about raw (see big chain of posts on raw at top of this page!) you can then tweak it to suit you/the dog better.

Yes we've not picked up puppy yet and comes with full details i proberly wasnt clear just needed basic advice i know nothing about raw. Is it best to have puppy on raw? My other to are on barking heads but want to keep puppy on what the breeder has fed, my pointer would love a raw diet but cant get my head around it.

Ask the breeder as they will be experienced with this type of diet & more than willing to go through it with you I imagine. Could even be offended you didn't think you could ask them.

Definitely ask breeder. My pup came on Royal Canin but we swapped him to raw, he has Natural Instinct, 600g a day over 4 meals at the moment. He lives it, and it is reassuring that someone else is doing the thinking about balancing bone/meat/offal etc! It's not cheap, but he is worth it!

I agree, speak to the breeder they are the best ones to advise you. Most breeders will give out the diet sheet a couple of weeks before the pup is collected so the new owner can get food in.

First off don't stress too much about it.

I think sometimes it can get complicated when you think about it.

Will PM you a very good link about RAW. And if its something you want to stick too there is no reason why your others can't join in. TBH I had two raw and my oldie on dog food and had him refusing meals as he knew what the others had was better, as a result he did much better on raw at 15yrs old ;)

But agree your new to this, speak to breeder first.

First four pages are super helpful and there are loads of raw feeders on there:

Suppliers:

Obviously ask the breeder where she gets her supplies from. As already mentioned, don't stress, it's dead easy once you get into the swing of it.

Ask away, lots of us on here feed raw and read the sticky above.

Barking Heads is an ok food but has lots of fillers. If you do switch an older dog, go nice and slowly, don't rush. :)

When i got my cocker pup in january he was on a raw diet and i was unsure what to feed / do. I fed him on what breeder sent him with and continued with this for a while. I gradually added some veg and other bits into it so he had a balance with all the vitamins etc he needed. I now have him on Natures Instinct and he loves it!!
He occassionally has a raw chicken wing - which keeps him entertained for ages!!
I find he has such a lovely coat from the raw diet and also becauase it isnt dry (like kibble) he doesnt need to drink as much so has made house training so so easy!!

Good luck and enjoy pup (am loving my boy) :-) x
