Hi I have a 14 week old jack russsell puppy, I started him on jameswellbeloved, but changed to burns because his poo could be quite runny. On the burns they seemed to get firm but still can be runny, he also poos 4 times a day, which seems a lot. I saw the vet who didnt seem concerned as long as 2 per day were firm. Any tips for how to firm them up or reduce the amount of times. He is growing well but I dont want him to start to loose weight.

Is it worth giving him chicken and rice for a few days?

Thanks!

He's only 14 weeks old and you've changed his food once already! Put him on a decent food, leave him to it for a month and then worry about it.

So long as he's not looking dehydrated, he'll be fine. My pups was going 3/4 times a day at her age, now she just goes after dinner.

I also have a 14 week old puppy. Morning poops are always firm, as are last thing at night, but the early evening poops can often be a little looser than the others. Still making a "shape", but not quite so firm.

I moved Harvey from James Wellbeloved to Orijen. When he was on James Wellbeloved the looser poops were just like thick custard, at least on Orijen they are like a poop!

I have put it down to him not resting as much in the evenings with the kids about, plus he drinks more of an evening as the heating is on and he likes to lie by the pipework.

I'm not worrying. My puppy is healthy, happy and very playful. Having said that, I was concerned about him this time last week when he did have proper diarrhoea. He was going every hour and just producing water. That's when you start to get concerned! That was put down to drinking milk from where my mother in law feeds feral cats.

How often are you feeding your puppy a day? Harvey is fed three times a day and also poohs four times a day. I thought that was good. Some puppies can leave that many piles of presents on the floor overnight!

Thanks for the replies. He gets 3 feeds a day, I wasnt concerned about 4 poos a day, they are like clock work but the lady on the burns helpline said it was a lot.

Its not diarrhoea just it can be quite soft. Its is pooh shaped but can be messy to pick up! I just want to make sure he is absorbing al the nutrients, and wondered if a probiotic like yoghurt to help, I dont want to make it worse!!
