Can dogs grow out of being carsick? My OHs parents recently bought (well he'll be 5 months in a weeks time) a JRT pup. But he can't handle journeys in the car. He's always sick. My OHs mum is quite upset as she was looking forward to taking him to the beach etc but her husband isn't so keen having him in the car with him being sick.

He's also started trying to mount female dogs and showing his little boy bits about! He will be getting castrated soon but anything else to stop this embarrassing behaviour?

Mums little JRT was the same, his brother goes everywhere but he could handle 3 miles without spewing. He's 2 and a half now and he went hunting all season (stop start, little journeys 100 yrds up the road e.t.c) he went 60 miles the other week and not a patch of sick in sight!

Just take it easy around bends and when breaking and try to make short journeys, he should come good.

Good luck.

They need to make sure they always pre-starve the puppy before journeys......a common car sickness problem is due to feeding before travel.

They should also try containing/crating in the car.....lessens the motion of travelling as apposed to being loose in the boot/seat

There is post here somewhere......someone else posted in reguard to travel problems.........I gave some advice in there........I will try and find it so u can have a look.

ITs on page 2 under TRAVELSICK........posted by BARKING HORSE.......hope this helps.
