Puppy Dog Attacked!!!

My OH cute lickle choc lab puppy was out for a walk on saturday and he was quite happily going over to say hello to another doggie, when it turned and had bit a chunk out of his chest!!! he came out of vets yesterday with the customary lamp shade necklace and a chest drain! He's only 5 and half months!! :-(
the other dog was a staffy cross and doesnt go out for walks much.
Toby (my OH's dog) was very very lucky, the other dog just missed anything vital although, he did damage his wind pipe.

Poor wee pup! Sounds like the other dog hasn't been properly socialised with dogs. Hope Tody feels better soon!

Personally I don't let my dog, (schnauzer in my sig) or my uncles (the two labs) near other dog suntil you can see what way they're going to react. Windsor (one of the labs) went to say hello to a springer, thankfully I pulled him back as the springer went buck daft growling and baring her teeth. Which to me is unusual behaviour for a springer anyway!

Was the other dog on a lead? The laws with dogs are so silly at the minute. If your OH puppy was off the lead and the other one was on, then they would class your OHs dog as the nuiscance!

nope-both on leads. being walked by 2 14 yr old girls. it doesnt seem to have knocked his confidence at all so thats good

Ooops that's a tough lesson.

You need to be aware that not every dog may be as welcoming as yours. As a matter of curtousy you should always ask the other owners if it's ok for your dog to go and say hello.

Sorry your dog got hurt, and thank goodness it wasn't more serious. But your fault I'm afraid.
