Have got a 12 week cocker, she will eventually be my yard dog on the yard I work at but after some Advice for training her now.. With the main question about giving treats as a reward/ training device. What have people done? Is it good or a bad idea? Thanks
 
My first thought was 'what does she prefer?' i.e. a particular toy or food as a reward (some dogs have a 'valuable' toy they only get as praise during training). So that would be the first thing to experiment with and find out about. I'm pro treats in training if it gets the behaviours I'm asking for (or toys if that works better).

My next question was how much experience you already have with training dogs so that any answers you get aren't either patronising or unintelligable because someone's assumed knowledge you maybe don't have. I wouldn't want to say, for example, 'don't forget to calculate the treats into the daily food allowance so she doesn't get overfed' if you're a seasoned dog trainer/owner ;)
