Thankfully the working type filter does seem to work. (I’ve never actually bought a pup off there but I do like window shopping).Yep they do but it saves filtering out the show breds

Sometimes I disagree as a reflex ! I agree there were a lot of suitable for both.Lots seem to like putting dual purpose now so you've to wade through those too.
There's less crossover in the spaniels interestingly
Really that's what Labs should be. They always used to be bred to be dual purpose. We have old pedigrees with a lot of Dual Champions in them. The divergence between the extremes of the 2 types saddens me.Lots seem to like putting dual purpose now so you've to wade through those too.

Champ dogs only allow ads from verified health tested litters, not everyone knows enough people who need a new puppy to sell a whole litter!I wouldn’t be looking to buy from someone who was advertising on champ dogs!! No harm looking of course but most well established breeders sell by word of mouth or through friends of friends.
I love Red very much and she’s a type that you would recognise and like. She’s stocky and short legged (compared to my others). But for work ethic and drive give me a trials bred whippety thing.Really that's what Labs should be. They always used to be bred to be dual purpose. I’m Devon but I think I’m sorted, thank you.Clodagh, where abouts are you in the country? I know of a chap that breeds labs, they are top class.
I agree re the show types, they really don't look fit for anything much. It is very sad and often made worse by the dogs being overweight, too.Depends what you are buying for. Very few show x working litters make the grade for a trial dog or have the drive for big commercial shoots, although there are always exceptions. Many are fine as working dogs of course.
I don't know when the last dual champion was in labs but so many of the show types sadly look unable to lumber over a fence with a big cock bird these days
At least they often have health tests, so for people without connections, it’s not a bad place to start.I wouldn’t be looking to buy from someone who was advertising on champ dogs!! No harm looking of course but most well established breeders sell by word of mouth or through friends of friends.
My lot have matching purple collars. My favourite colour.Thank goodness my gundog and LGD both wear purple!
It’s where we found Milo, but the current from working parents in North Yorkshire pup was on Champdogs.Gundogs Direct is much better than Champ Dogs for working litters
At one point, I was interested in show types, but they seem very few and far between in England. A friend took one on from Spaniel Aid, lovely looking but the grooming!Yep they do but it saves filtering out the show breds
Not all parents on there are health tested. I’ve seen one parent with various tests, not necessarily the full range on lots of litters. I admit, not always spaniels!Champ dogs only allow ads from verified health tested litters, not everyone knows enough people who need a new puppy to sell a whole litter!

Teeny, but I bet a lot of working bred are never registered for multiple reasons.Roughly 5-8% of the registrations annually with KC are show type for Springers.
