Posted earlier about our little rescue girl who came to us yesterday afternoon. The pics on my previous post were taken this afternoon, and as you can see from those she is running around and playing quite happily. This evening she has had sickness and diarrhoea. Both runny and brown, in fact if I hadn't seen her vomit I would have thought it was diarrhoea. She won't drink but isn't dehydrated at the moment in that her skin bounces back when I pinch it.

Is it potentially something serious? The only poorly dog I have ever had was an elderly one and am not sure if this is a not unusual puppy thing?

I would wait till the morning....she's new to you and bound to be stressed by all the changes she's been through. Probably just needs a few days to settle in....could she have eaten something that hasn't agreed with her ?

I don't think she has eaten anything she shouldn't have. The dogs are never out by themselves, either OH and I are with them. They are out a fair bit as we have a small holding, but we have kept a really close eye on her, with her being new and not knowing our land etc.

I didn't see earlier post and you haven't put her age in this one, but is she up to date with her vaccinations for her age? If under 16 weeks then still at risk of things like parvo even if vaccinated.
Another thing to think about is whether the diet is the same as she was on, or whether it has had to be changed suddenly.
They dehydrate very quickly at a young age, so if not improved greatly by monday morning then i would definitely take to vet (note that the skin test is a guide only, and not 100% accurate, so hard to know how quick they are going to start having probs.)
Well done you for giving a rescue pup a new home :)

I would get her in for a vet check on Monday.Shes probably not been wormed.i would also hope they test for giardia.
Have you checked her temp?if she's running a temp I'd get her in asap. Also be sure she's well hydrated.
I'm pleased she has a safe home now....it beggars belief what people will do.
I have a lady I see on my walks, she has a fear aggressive ,boxer female and has just bought two ,French Bulldogs.(one has skin issues)She lives in a tiny council flat with three children and announced to me shes now "a breeder of boxers and bulliies."....no space,no Health testing, poor quality specimens. All for money....: (

Has she eaten poo? Might explain the vomit. If you are worried ring vet for advise. Young pups can go down hill quickly.

She is a poo eater! She has sickness and diarrhoea again last night, and we have been wracking our brains trying to work out why. I caught her eating our Springer pups poo just after he had done it.

At least that explains why she has been sick, but how on earth do we stop it?

You have to be very vigilant in clearing up after your dogs as soon as possible after they've been - so no poos for pup to eat and so no puppy diarrhoea and sickness. Have your pups been vaccinated yet? Has new rescue pup been to vet yet for check up/vaccinations and or worming? If not I think it would be well worth taking both pups. Do you have older dogs? are they vaccinated? So many questions to answer it could go on and on, so I just think a vet visit should be in order. They'll be able to check the pup's health and give you all the advice you need. :)

Yes I agree with this, it can be a very hard habit to stop.I would get her to the vet who can advise on worming etc.
You will need to watch her because it can be a constant cycle of eating poo and vomiting and so on.
They can get some nasty illness from doing it.

Other dogs wormed and vaccinated, pup wormed, just trying to find out if she has had first vac as I and the rescue were told she was. No supporting paperwork to confirm this though. The dogs are never out by themselves, so I pick up as soon as they do anything, but the little two are kenneled when we go out and overnight, so that poses a problem. I will have to have a think about that I think.

Get the vet to vaccinate do not trust the rescue place to be honest they should have done it. The vets will tell you how many times they have seen unvaccinated pups who have supposidly had vaccinations for Parvo.
