Yay or nay? I was offered one for Colin today when he went in for his second jab, £16.99 per month - my inclination is to say yes!

Apparently he didn’t notice the injection because he was too busy eating liver treats ❤️ And he has 2 now so castration is very much optional ??
 
I have a friend who does and it works well for her. I dont because I dont spot on unless I find fleas and I worm when I need to. I dont love the idea of being tied to the vets personally although I'd not move from mine so I dont know why it bothers me lol
 
We have the plans for our 2. It covers monthly flea and wormer. 6 month health check, and yearly boosters. (Our vets don’t vaccinate everything every year though). It also covers Bo having his anal glands expressed which he needs occasionally, plus we get discounts should they need dentals. We also got 20% off when Bo was neutered. We didn’t have the plan when we had Luna spayed.
 
Similar here - we pay 15.99 a mnth for each dog. That covers all routine issues - vaccs/wormers/flea treatments/anal glands/claw trimming/annual health checks etc. We also get 10% off any non routine consultations.

On top of this we pay 8.99 per mnth for accident and injury cover which also includes 3rd party insurance (not though the vets).

This way we feel we have all eventualities covered!!!!
 
This one covers flea treatment, worming, annual vaccination, annual health check (including urine test) and annual vaccinations, plus 10% discount on dental treatment.

Having said that, I don’t ever flea treat my dogs because they don’t have them. And I worm them a lot less frequently than modern recommendations.

I think the dental thing would be a massive plus if he was a greyhound ? but not so relevant for a JRT!

And I’m not sure how long I’ll keep his annual vaccinations going.....

Hmmmm, food for thought now!

One vet said that our JRTs had the best teeth he had seen in dogs of their age. I don't think we did anything special, they just had good teeth! We certainly wouldn't use enough flea treatment and wormers for the scheme to be worthwhile
 
I was sitting in the vet's waiting room to collect an animal and was there for a long time. The staff were employed on ringing clients trying to get them onto these plans as I suppose they are a regular income for the practice and an incentive to keep clients.

I don't flea treat as he doesn't have them, don't vaccinate annually and don't over worm so I didn't think they were worth it.
If dental treatment was say £300 then 10% off is £30 which is around 2 months payments on the plan.
 
I have had it, but after my pair get vaccinated this month I’m going to stop it. It was worth it for spaying/neutering but my terrier hates the vet to the point where the health check is pointless because he’s growling so much that you can’t tell if anything is wrong, and I definitely wouldn’t ask them to look at his teeth! I’m probably going to get an online subscription for wormer/deflea treatment that gets delivered instead.
 
My vets have offered this for some time. I counted how much I spent a year on the stuff covered by the plan and it turned out the plan would have cost me more over a year. If I had a pup needing to be neutered, I would have made a small saving.
 
Maybe worth it for the first year when you will be worming more often , and he’ll need a first booster but wouldn’t have thought it worthwhile for future years . Main boosters only every 3 years and would you be flea and worm treating regularly when he is older ?

think this is expensive. Ours is is £12pm inc vaccinations all worming twice yearly health check discount on dentals and food.
 
This is so interesting.
The plans over here don't include worming. Here you get free consults for the year, a annual screening blood test, set percentage off treatment and parasite prevention and a few hundred dollars off a dental treatment. Free puppy school...and Im sure I've forgotten some of the other bits.
I've seen people save thousands on ours through consult fees with chronic health conditions and the new puppy owners seem to find it helpful for getting things checked rather then worrying about costs.
I'm not sure if I'd see as much value to the customer without the free consult benefit. How much would worming etc cost yearly?

They are actually often used as a loss leader for practices so should work out as good value to the customer as they help bond you to them as a longterm client. if you join the program you are more likely to stay with that practice.
 
I joined my dogs when one of them needed a lot of dental work when she arrived. It saved me around £500 that year (pet club fixed price major dental of £250, as opposed to a friend who had the same thing done for £700!)

I don’t think i actually need it now though. Invariably I end up giving the flea treatment away as I end up with so much and I don’t get meds from the vet if I can help it, so don’t benefit from the discount there. I’m also looking to change vets but have only just signed new dog up so don’t know what to do. She’s having her first course of vaccinations so I probably will save this year.
 
I don’t use the monthly plans for the dogs/cats as it just doesn’t seem to give value for money given I don’t de-flea/worm as frequently as the plan.

What I do use however is the ‘Vaccs for life’ run via pets at home. £99 and you get all your vaccinations for the life of the pet and an annual basic health check.

I do have all my horses on a monthly plan with the vets, which I do think is good value - £9.99/month/horse which covers annual vaccs, annual health check (my vet always does me a mini work up too ?), teeth rasp (with sedation), 4 poo samples, 1 saliva sample, wormer and 10% off all other bills

Ha ha every penny I have goes on the dogs - today’s vets bill was £590, yesterday’s a mere £39, last week it was £100!

So effectively they have their own bank account - it’s mine ?
 
Where I work we offer puppy and kitten packages. It does save people money if they are going to spay/neuter within the package time span. Since I don't alter my dogs that early it wouldn't be worth it.
 
Bit late to this thread Levrier, but I don’t think these vet plans are worth it. Vets recommend flea treatment etc far too often. My dogs never have fleas so aren’t treated, I occasionally have to treat them for ticks if I find too many on my daily search . They have had one treatment this year. I expect I might consider a plan for greyhounds needing dental care. Best to just set money aside if you can.
