It's 12 years since we last had a puppy but having lost our beloved Vizsla last month we are, once again, about to be bring a new puppy home.

Are there any new or innovative Puppy products that we may not be aware of that you have found useful?
Or for any recent puppy owners was there a product that you now swear by?
Just sat here making the most of my last 2 days of relative peace 😂

I bought a toy sheep that had a beating heart and my lurcher seemed to be comforted by it especially at night .. a harness that had a third strap which he couldn’t wriggle out of , otherwise normal puppy stuff which has been around for years

I’ve just bought a new pup and the Snugglesafe is fab - 6 mins in the microwave twice a day.

I struggled to get a jumper to fit (Italian greyhound pup) - I was being tight and buying on Vinted. I actually went to Equafleece last week and they fitted her while I was there, that’s been a real bonus. As my pup and yours are short coated I find the jumper a real bonus as I can grab her by it, whether collar or tail!

Puppy safe chews, enzymatic floor cleaner (or bio laundry washing powder) for accidents, Fortiflora probitoics for transition to a new place and any resulting upset from new water sources etc and a crate

What sort of puppy? Another Viszla?

I really like the yak milk chew thingys. They are fairly expensive for a chew but when recent puppy was going through the phase of needing to chew furniture and herd random flies they were an excellent redirect for both of those activities. Better than any other bone/chew we found.

😁 He now sleeps on his own sofa in our bedroom, but is currently curled up on my bed for cuddles before bedtime 😁😂

(He’s not spoilt at all…. 👀)
I mean, Skaer sleeps on my pillow....well, mostly on the OH's head actually much to his disgust 🤣 I have too many not to opt for favouritism on who stays indoors at night!

That’s hilarious, Ivy sleeps UNDER the covers when she fancies it. Apparently (according to OH’s wisdom) she can do what she likes but Erik is too big to actually sleep on the bed….

I take great pleasure in sending him photos of Erik’s balls on his pillow when he stays away for the night 😁😂

Our puppy was 13 weeks when we got him and already crate trained. I've never used one before, but it's been brilliant. He hasn't woken us up at all overnight and takes himself to bed at around 9pm. It reassuring that he can't get into any mischief if I can't watch him fully.

Our best buy for toys was this. https://amzn.eu/d/cDkLuwa. We hide kibble in it and it keeps ours busy for ages.

Not another Vizsla ...yet!
Though I do want another our Vizsla was such a fabulous dog I was worried I would compare a Vizsla pup to him and it would always come up short.

Our new boy is a Bracco Italiano, a breed I've admired for years.
All being well we will look for a Vizsla in a few years time. I don't think it will be as easy as it was 12 years ago to find a good one as there seems to be a lot more badly bred Vizslas around now.
Unless the Bracco converts me of course 😂

Oo interesting. Are you planning to work him?

Yes, viszlas have been a bit a victim of their own popularity in recent years. There certainly seems to be fair few around now that are over the top clingy with a paper thin nerve.

I'm not sure about working him - it depends how he takes to it, we will definitely be training him.

I've also faithfully promised the breeder we will show him as she rates him very highly. So that will be unknown territory for me, I'm hoping it's less taxing than showing horses in hand!!

The majority of the Vizslas I'm seeing now bear little resemblance to our old boy.,who was more substantial and very bold in nature.

Glad you’re sticking with HPRs 😊 we work our German Longhaired Pointers and I love to see all of the breeds do their thing!
