Puppy Pricing?

Looking through lots of ads I've noticed that some breeders will ask more for girls than they do for boys. Why is that? Surely they've cost the same to bring into the world and raise as the boys?

^^^ this. I would hope any decent breeder would charge the same for dogs and bitches, rather than give new owners the idea that they could make money out of their bitch puppy.

its a bizarre thing! All my pups are same price whatever sex they are! I dont understand how a bitch is worth more either, on dodgy breeding grounds a good stud will earn you more in a lifetime than a bitch I would have thought. Utterly confusing.

Pretty much every litter I've ever looked at, including the KC reg ones have asked more for females. It's depressing. Not everyone wants to breed!

When we were looking for a GSD I diodn't come across any where the girls were cheaper than boys.

If the breeder you are looking at charges differing prices then they are doing so out of greed; therefore I would hazard a guess that they do not have the interest of the breed at heart and are in it for the money!!

I would never buy from, or recommend anyone else but from, a 'breeder' who charges a range of prices!

If they charge more for bitches, or have different prices for different colours they ought to be steered well clear of!!

Depends on the breed but to be honest I wouldn't go to someone who mix prices or those who charge more for pick of litter or by colour either, a puppy is a puppy.

Some of the best breeders that I know the ethical don't breed like yoyos and health test don't charge the earth, the home is more important those are the breeders I go to.

You get price rises with certain colours as well.

I thought it was just because bitches were easier to sell than dogs. We paid more for our lab bitch than the dogs were.

We breed Northern Inuits and we charge the same price for males and females. A lot of people who breed Jack Russels seem to charge more for bitches than dogs.
