I have a 5 week old Sporting Lucas terrier puppy which is still feeding from her mum, and I have started trying to introduce her to solid foods - weetabix etc. Unfortunately she is now rather constipated and is feeling very sorry for herself. Any advice please? She was the only puppy in the litter, and has been a little slow on the uptake about trying to eat, preferring to suckle.

You might have already tried this, but pour warm water over some of mums food, allow to turn to mush and mix it up, then once it has cooled a bit try that. Never used weetabix myself.

Years ago we used to wean puppies onto weetabix and milk, but more recently I use a complete puppy food. As Laura says, soak it with warm water until it is almost porridge like consistency, your pup should eat it. However, if she is an only pup mum will probably have had loads of milk so she may not be that hungry, how long is she away from her at the moment? Keep her away quite a while before you offer the food, then she will hopefully be hungry.
