Afternoon all,

Have 'ordered' our new puppy who is now 4 weeks and so we've got 4 weeks to sort ourselves out again. Feels like a very long time since we last did this (well, two years almost exactly!).

Our current dog is a nearly-2 year old entire lab, he's the soppiest mutt ever but highly excitable and obsessed with other dogs - never vicious but desperate to play and his recall/focus is non-existant when there are other dogs around. The new puppy is a boy (obviously still entire :p), same mother as our current dog but different dad.

How are we best to introduce them, considering Brax is absolutely manic? I remember how small he was and I really, really don't want Brax to squish Wills or do him any harm. We let Chlo and Brax meet in our garden in a freeplay sort of situation but that was fine because she was really chilled out and very careful with the small being. At the moment I'm thinking about having Wills in my arms, and waiting for the chaos to die down..?

Wills will go into the crate, Brax is already onto a grown up bed, and they'll be separated during the times we are not actively supervising - but is there anything else I can do to prepare Brax? Things that would be useful to teach him? We have done some socialisation with other dogs, and after a mad 10 minutes he does eventually become disinterested and calm down - but they're big dogs that can look after themselves...?

Also, Bracken has absolutely no sex drive or dominant behaviour at all, but is there anything I need to watch, as the pup becomes sexually mature? Has anyone had any problems with two entire dogs together?

And finally! Brax is up to date with all his vaccinations and everything, obviously Wills won't be able to go out for a while but is there anything we need to do to Brax to ensure he doesn't bring anything home? Any vaccs etc?

So:

1. How to introduce mad dog to tiny puppy.
2. Issues with two entire dogs?
3. Anything to do to current dog in prep for new one coming home?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but have introduced 3 puppies into our household with older dogs at some point over the last few years. Although non of ours are labs (terriers and collies) we find the older dogs take a few days to show much interest and then usually play really nicely. Just make sure you give the puppy plenty of sleeping time, that's the beauty of a crate. Good luck and enjoy!

Introduce in neutral territory if poss, where no other dogs go (friend's garden?) or just go for it in your house. We did with theps and our established dog. Ater two weeks, it was better  but did take time. Let the older dog have time alone with you while pup is crated.

Pics, Cedars, what are you playing at not giving us a pic?!

Meet Willow, Wills for short. I know Willow is a bit girly for a boy but it has a very special meaning to me.
