I am lucky enough to be invited to two puppy shows this year. The dresses and shoes I can normally sort without too much stress.

Something that has however been bugging me for several years is whether it is correct to wear a hat or not? Master did tell me I should wear a hat but I never figured out if he was joking! Very few women seem to bother locally, but given the recent forecast perhaps some sort of hat might be wise to avoid sunstroke ringside. Would borrowing my Dad's panama be a complete no-no?

Advice & thoughts please

If it suits your outfit why not?

TBH, Puppy Show attire has got a lot more casual in recent years; still smart but casual and many ladies, mostly old school, do wear hats but many more do not.

FWIW I can't take the sunlight so I will be wearing a hat if it's still as bright as it is now but it will be off as soon as judging is over!

I'm always worried about blocking someone's view with a hat! Mind you I am so short that it probably wouldn't be an issue unless there was a pygmy sat in the row behind!

Olderthanshelooks, I was always told that a summer dress or a skirt and top as for a smart garden party was correct, but my pack is very traditional and others may take a different, more relaxed approach. My view is that the hunt staff and masters have worked hard to make sure everything is perfect, so the subscribers who are lucky enough to be invited should also make an effort.

The blokes definitely have it easier with their suits, shirts and hunt ties!
