I have a 10 week old lab and he's been fab so far, from day one he has pretty much gone to toilet outside and rarely toilets in the house overnight (only ever pees if does). He cried for about 2 nights and that was it. I normally get up between 6.30am and 7am (alarm set for 7am) and so far have managed to get up before he cries. He goes straight outside and does his business when I get up.

Now the last 2 days he has woken up about 2 minutes to 7am and cried to go out. I've got up each time and let him out, first time staying awake and second time going back to bed. Do I now -
A - assume he is only crying to go to the toilet and get up when he cries (if before 7am) and let him out and stay up (but thinking that he will link crying with me getting up)?
B - wake up a little earlier trying to aim to wake up before he cries but risk encouraging him to wake up earlier?

Any other thoughts appreciated. Am I over thinking things?

When we first got Gizmo bang on 7am he used to yap and jump about and i used to get up to him tand let him out, i asked the lady i got him off if he did this at home and she said 7am was when everyone got up and he had his breakfast

I've always gone for option B otherwise it's difficult to know whether they're crying because they need the toilet or crying because they want to be let out.

When our lab was a puppy he went out at 11 and then we didn't hear a peep out of him until we let him out about 7, and my mum's lurcher was the same. My lurcher on the other hand cried at 4am, 5am, 6am, etc and every night without fail peed and defecated in the cage, despite being right next to 3 other dogs and never being fed after 6pm. I got so fed up of having to bath him in the early hours of the morning as he was covered in you know what, that in the end I set an alarm for 4am and if all was quiet I went downstairs, took him out to toilet and put him straight back in (a bitt like super nanny's bed time routine!). Over a few weeks I made it later and later until he was quiet at 7am, definitely a high maintenance puppy! These days he sleeps on my bed until I make him get up and go downstairs, sometimes it's past 9am lazy creature

At 10 weeks I would assume he was crying to be let outside. If it was earlier than I needed to get up then he would be out, do his business and then back to his crate. TBH I think he is doing well to go so long.

That's the thing, im so impressed with him so far i dont want to upset anything! I got stuck at the yard for 5 hours the other morning (big disaster but that's a whole other story!) when im normally back within 2 hours and he had held on all that time! Super puppy!
