How long, generally do puppies stay out on walk for?
I have heard that some people choose to send them back to the kennels sooner than others. It's my first time as a puppy walker and wondered how long I'll be able to have my little terrors for.

I puppy walked for the first time this year too. I got her in March, and originally huntsman said I could have her until August. After I'd had her for a few months, he said I could have her til Christmas. Maybe he had decided I wasn't a numpty!

However, they also said that "I would know" when she needed to go back and I did indeed. At about bang on 6 months she discovered the outside world and she was gone! So I took her back because I didn't have the facilities to keep her in. I know some people have a large dog proofed area for them to run/roam in which makes it easier to keep them for longer. I am going to try to sort one out for next summer.

I guess she won't be hunting til next season (or even the season after now??) so they won't actually need her back for ages.

Enjoy it! My 5 yr old said only today that she want the puppy back. We miss her!

Exactly right!:D Some people take on hound pups without the vaguest clue as to what it entails - and pups run riot! Putting a short stay on the first pups makes it easier for huntsman to take pups back before too much harm is done, without causing offence by telling a subscriber: "You're bloody useless and if I leave them with you any longer I'll have to shoot them when they come back!"

I usually kept mine until the Feb/March of the following year - they like them back in time to get them on couples and 'disciplined' before the Puppy Show.

Hounds are usually entered at about 14 months-16 months old!

Years ago my parents usedto puppy walk a couple
every year and once they started to wander into the farmers fields with sheep, we used to send them back. Once 1 half of the couple stayed with us until after Christmas, we have photos of him in the dining room with the Christmas Tree!!!! Luckily the kennel huntsman never found out, whoops!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies :)
It sounds like they're going to be around for much longer than I thought :D

Thankfully we are quite puppy proof on the farm and they haven't escaped as of yet. My family have puppy walked before, but that was decades ago so they couldn't remember how long they were around for!
