We picked up a 14 week old dobermanx x lurcher from Greyhound rescue last week...she is beautiful. However she seems to suffer from a runny bummy (as my daughter calls it ) a lot. For the first three nights ahe was clean in her crate at night but I gave her a drontal tablet on Wednesday and she has since had mild diarrhoea. This morning it was a little bloody. We did see some round worms in the first couple of lots...but not since. She is a little quite this morning but has been fine otherwise.
I am off out to work in a min...so will check any replies later.

worming treatments can cause loose faeces....and the small amount of blood you descibe sounds like colitis(inflammation of the intestine) which can be accompanied with diarhoea/change in diet/straining....if she is bright inself and still eating and drinking....she should dry up...unless you have changed her food from the diet she was on....if so you need to place her on a bland diet(rice/chicken or pasta/chicken for 12-48 hours and boil and cool her water and then introduce her normal diet.
If THE SYMPTOMS PERSIST AND SHE GOES OFF HER FOOD/WATER AND SHOWS SIGNS OF DEPRESSION/PASSES MORE BLOOD.....make an appointment to see the vet.

Thankyou soo much for your replies and advice. She seems very bright tonight and whilst its still not firm...it looks better than it did. Just off to cook some scrambled egg for her tea!!

The advice given by Cala is spot on because when we bought our jack russell as a puppy ( other dog was a rescue) she had been fed an awful diet ( she came from gypsies, no slur against them btw but her diet was crap) had a belly that looked like she would explode and after worming and a better diet the poor thing got overloaded and developed colitis and basically when we took her to the vets they told us pretty much the same advice really.
They recommended chicken and rice for a few days to see if she improved and then to gradually introduce her back to her puppy food mixed with chicken and rice until back on normal food. Would have to say though we found the likes of pedigree a bit too rich for her ( tinned food that was). She ended up being on quantum dried food I think it was.
She still gets colitis now though usually if they ( the dogs) have ever had some pork leftovers or she pigs herself.
I usually found she would get mucus, blood ( sometimes) dark or very pale stained runny faeces and sometimes threads of intestine ( like you get in ece in ferrets if anyone has ferrets like we do).
I believe the colitis she got as a pup was due to being overloaded with worms and as a result of a strong wormer -as drontal is - the death of the worms caused an upset and this coupled with a change of environment, stress and a better diet resulted in her condition.
That was in my case though and she did improve. However as a precaution I would advise you to take the puppy to the vets if there is no improvement or symptoms worsen.
