I think Daisy may be coming into season (this will be her first. She's 8 months old).

Roughly how long can I expect it to last, and when do I need to be 'careful' with other male dogs??

About 4 weeks, sometimes longer. Keep her away from males for the whole time as they will persecute her even if she isn't ready to mate. Also definately keep her separate when it looks as though the swelling is going down and the bleeding has stopped,a s that is when they are most fertile. I always say a week longer than there are any signs, just to be safe.

No worries, it is a total PITA and I have no idea how we coped before spaying was invented! Our pup will be due one at some point and I am so not looking forward to it.

Well this will be her one and only, so hopefully the trauma will be short lived (well, 4 weeks(ish)) short lived :D

We had my step kids bitch here last week which Daisy was trying to hump. I had no idea it was a sign of impending season until I looked it up.

Learning, learning, learning all the time!

Ok, so beeding almost stopped. Pup has sort of been herself, enjoyed her walks and eating etc.

However from yesterday evening has gone very quiet, and is currently curled up fast asleep.

Do I need to worry, or is this quite normal (for some bitches at any rate)??

Tbh apart from being keen on the chaps, my bitches have always behaved perfectly normal throughout their seasons. I wonder if she is coming down with something. Is her temperature ok?

She will be coming up to her most fertile time if bleeding is paling off. Don't relax with regard to keeping away from dogs for at least 2 more weeks . Some bitches do get very hormonal and quiet during seasons, others are fine . Just keep an eye but as long as she is eating and drinking I wouldn't worry too much .

Thanks. This thread is very useful as my young bitch is likely to have her first season at any time.

Ive always had dogs so bitches are a bit of a mystery to me. Then again my horse is my first mare and I've coped with her!
