you'll probably be whacked with serious import duty, but it's a bit of a lottery, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't (on all stuff from the USA in my experience.)
the alternative is to get it posted to a friend/relative out there and then get them to send it to you with "gift" on the outside... worth a try.
Hah! Yes I bought one, silly moo I bought it from should have posted it to my Spanish address (for some reason Spain aren't so rabid about import duty) but sent it instead to my dad's address in UK
I can tell you I paid $190 for the saddle and £52 in duty/tax when it arrived in UK, plus my dad had to do an 80 mile round trip to collect it and pay the tax in cash from the bond warehouse. I was not pleased.
I think the tax is based on the cost of the item, which the sender has to detail on the shipping documents and label. No way will you get away with an item as valuable as a saddle as a 'gift'. Or 'sample merchandise' etc. In fact, they will probably fine you for trying to avoid duty too.
